Programs and Activities

The Cossitt PTC sponsors many programs and activities that enrich our children’s lives. The year’s fundraising efforts provide the dollars, and parents provide the know-how and labor needed to enhance the basics and provide some extras.

Art Appreciation

Art Club

Monthly (Oct-April) after school art club for 5th and 6th-grade students interested students in exploring art concepts and creating art projects.

Art/Talent Show

The student art show runs each spring in the odd years while CossittPalooza the student talent show runs during the even years. Each show provides opportunities for all interested students to get involved.

Back to School Party

Welcome back to school social for Cossitt families.

Battle of the Books

Lunchtime book program for 4th grade students over the lunch hour. The winning Cossitt group moves on to compete in a District-wide battle.

Bike Safety Rodeo

The Bike Safety Rodeo is an after-school event for students 3rd grade and up in September. Completion of the Bike Safety test is required for Cossitt students who wish to ride their bikes to school.

Birthday Books

Each year, students choose a new book on their birthday (or ½ birthday for summer birthdays).

Book Clubs (2nd/3rd/6th)

Chair coordinates co-chairs to run lunchtime reading program for grades 2nd, 3rd and 6th grades in January-February. Book Clubs meet once a week during lunchtime.

Book Fair

Takes place annually in early November. Committee Chairs work with a book vendor, school staff and parent volunteers to run a fair in Cossitt’s LRC. All Cossitt students are given classroom time to visit the Book Fair. The PTC provides Book Fair Scholarships to qualified students.

Building and Grounds

Establishes and implements long term planning to improve our building and grounds, and our children’s learning environment.

Cheers for Cossitt

Parent social event with food, drinks and dancing held in the spring.

Clean Out Your Desk

End-of-year locker/desk clean out in order to donate reusable school supplies. 

Cossitt Clothing Sale

The Cossitt Clothing Sale is a children’s consignment clothing sale featuring gently-used children’s clothing, athletic shoes, dress shoes, uniforms, costumes, accessories and more. This is the Cossitt PTC’s largest fundraiser; held twice a year in the fall and spring. Please click here for more information.

CPCFRO Representative

Intramural athletics for grades 5 and 6. Cossitt students play volleyball and basketball against other District 102 schools with a focus on sportsmanship and having fun. Students build new friendships as they get ready to enter Park Junior High. For more information go to www.cpcfro.net

Education Garden Paver Sale

Garden Pavers can be customized to show Cossitt spirit, acknowledge a teacher or faculty member, celebrate a child’s success or favorite activity, or share a positive thought or saying. Sold every other year.

Ellis Island Experience

A 2nd grade parent who works with the 2nd grade team to coordinate volunteers and supplies for the Ellis Island Experience traditionally held in March. 

End of Year Event - Planning

Plan, coordinate and run this beloved all school event. The EOYE is an afternoon of games, music, food and friends and celebrates a year of success and promotes a spirit of unity among our students!

End of Year Event : T-Shirt Design

Design, order and coordinate distribution of the t-shirts for that all students, staff and parent volunteers wear at the End of the Year Event.

Enrichment Events

Organizes and researches school-wide enrichment events including Math nights; Author Visits; School-wide and/or Grade Level Assemblies. Chair(s) may also be asked to assist with organization of grade level field trips.

Family Fun Night

Family event designed to promote total family participation. Click for more information.

First Grade Service Project

A 1st grade parent who works with the 1st grade team to coordinate volunteers and supplies for the "How Can a First Grader Make a Difference? Service Project” traditionally carried out during the last few weeks of school. 

Flying High Pizza FUNdraiser

Support Cossitt by dropping your kids ages 5 & up at Flying High for 3 hours of supervised fun. Click here for more information.

Garden Club

Student group interested in gardening using Cossitt’s Outdoor Education Garden.  The Garden Club meets weekly after school in the fall and spring.

Hospitality

Organizes several lunches/breakfasts/treats for teachers and staff on special occasions (back to school, conferences, teacher appreciation week, etc) and for students (buddy popsicles, ice cream social, etc).

Lunchtime winter reading program for 5th-grade students.

New Family Liaison

Sends emails to families entering Cossitt and communicates throughout the year to help new families stay abreast of all things Cossitt. 

Original Art Works

Original Art Works is an art-based fundraising company, which offers quality, functional products for displaying children’s artwork. All Cossitt students create an original artwork during art class that can be transferred onto a keepsake item such as a clay tile, mouse pad, tote bag or t-shirt.

PIMA Representative

Represents Cossitt on the District 102 Parent Instrumental Music Association - PIMA, the parent-run organization that supports the District’s band and orchestra programs.

Run for 102

The Run for 102 Race to the Finish is open to anyone within or outside the District 102 community and benefits the PTO/PTCs for the six schools in District 102

Running Club

After-school running club for 4th, 5th and 6th grade students.

School Supplies

Families order pre-packaged school supply kits online in the spring for the following school year. Kits are delivered to their child’s classrooms before the first day of school and a percentage of sales go goes to the PTC.

Science Center Representative

Represents Cossitt on the Science Center Board to help plan programs including the District-wide STEM Expo and fundraisers.

Silk Road Experience

A 6th grade parent who works with the 6th grade team to coordinate volunteers and supplies for the Silk Road Experience traditionally held in May. 

Sixth Grade Send Off

Legacy project for the 6th-grade students and send-off activities as students prepare to enter Park Junior High. 

Social Fundraisers

Social fundraisers are organized and hosted by Cossitt parents and signups are offered online. These fundraisers raise funds for the school while providing an avenue for the Cossitt parent community to make and build relationships.

Tiger Fun Run

A fundraiser that often supports larger PTC projects. Proceeds from the 2023 Tiger Fun Run have been put towards the purchase and installation of new AV equipment for the gym and MPR.

Tiger Fun Run will be back in 2024/25!

Sports Outing Coordinator

Responsible for planning 1-2 game outings a year.  Past outings included trips to the Chicago Wolves and Chicago Bulls. Cossitt families also love to cheer on our favorite high school players!Trivia Night
