Cossitt Playground Addition

Our Playground Design!

The Playground Committee designed the playground addition using input from surveys given to students and a poll in the Tiger Times. We surveyed playground elements of slides, balance, climbing, spinning and sensory, along with an open-ended question: “What do you want to see on the playground?” Our results overwhelmingly showed the Cossitt community wants SWINGS! Thanks to Mathnasium’s generous donation, we will have swings in our addition, including an adaptable seat.

With the passing of the referendum, the District will fund replacing the woodchips with accessible playground surfacing. We are working in tandem with the District on the addition and the new surfacing to determine the timing of when construction can start - stay tuned!

Questions? We would love to hear from you at cossittptc@dist102.k12.il.us

Our survey showed kids want to climb and more slides! Two different climbers and a curved slide which should fit the bill!

We surveyed between two different types of spinners and over 80% voted for the Topsy Turvy spinner, which can include more kids in the fun!

One of our goals was to make the playground more inclusive to our students and community. We are adding a communication board to help all our friends express themselves!

Our balance component was a tight race between the tightrope bridge and the SwizzleStix bridge but the tightrope won the race!

We wanted to include more options for kids who are unable to climb into our play structures. This rain sound panel is also a great sensory option for kids.

We are also adding to the existing structure a storefront panel as another ground level feature and to encourage the kids’ imagination !

Last, but certainly not least, there will be SWINGS! Thanks to our sponsor, Mathnasium, we will have four swings, including an adaptable molded seat swing for all our students to enjoy!
